June did not start the way Zach Kokoska had hoped.
After seeing his batting average rise to .231 in early May, the Fresno Grizzlies outfielder and designated hitter went 4 for 26 in his first eight games of June and saw his average dip to .192.
But the minor leaguer out of Latrobe found a spark from there, watching a burgeoning hitting streak take shape as he climbed to .253 heading into July.
Through Tuesday, he hit safely in 11 straight games.
Kokoska, a 10th-round draft pick of the Colorado Rockies last summer, is seeing plenty of reps for the Single-A Grizzlies.
He had a career-high four hits and four RBIs — and nine total bases — on June 28 against the Stockton Ports, including his seventh home run of the season. Two nights later, we went 4 for 6 again.
He has hit safely in 15 of 16 games during his hot stretch, adding two more homers for three blasts in three games to close out the month.
Kokoska, 23, known for his power and sneaky good outfielding ability, was hitting. 251 with 39 runs, nine homers, eight doubles and 25 RBIs in 55 games in the California League.
Last season, he was 17 for 43 (.395) in 20 games in rookie ball.
