Purdue golfer tops international leaderboard at Sunnehanna Amateur

Purdue rising junior Herman Sekne, a native of Oslo, Norway, fired a 5-under 65 to move into a tie with first-round leader Bryce Lewis of Tennessee atop an international leaderboard at the Sunnehanna Amateur on Thursday.

Sekne and Lewis, who shot an even-par 70 in Round 2, are at 6-under for the tournament. Sekne birdied three of the last five holes and made an eagle on No. 11.

Duke’s Kelly Chinn, Louisville’s Jiri Zuska and Arkansas’ Julian Perico were one shot back at 5-under. Zuska is from Kladno, Czechia and Perico is from Lima, Peru.

LSU’s Nicolas Arcement shot the day’s lowest round, a 6-under 64, to move within two strokes of the lead at 4-under. He’s joined there by Kent State’s Josh Gilkison and Arizona State’s Preston Summerhays.

Twenty-eight players are within five strokes of the lead.

Murrysville native Palmer Jackson, Greensburg’s Mark Goetz and Pittsburgh’s Nathan Smith are part of a large group at 1-under. Jackson shot a 1-under 69 on Thursday. Smith and Goetz carded 1-over 71s.

Shaler’s Tanner Grzegorczyk shot a 73 and is at 5-over, Oakmont’s Sean Knapp carded a 71 to move to 8-over, and Fox Chapel’s Gregor Meyer shot a 74 to stand at 10-over for the tournament.
