The National Weather Service has issued multiple winter weather advisories for several counties in Western Pennsylvania.
Jenna Lake, a NWS meteorologist in the Moon office, said a “mature and dynamic” weather system moving in from the plains/midwest section of the country will usher in a mixed bag of will rain, snow, sleet and freezing rain Thursday, but most of the region will experience a rain event.
Ice storm warnings beginning at 5 p.m. Thursday have been issued for the ridges of Westmoreland and Fayette counties, as well as all of Garrett County.
Lake said freezing rain is expected to begin mid-morning for the eastern half of those areas until 7 a.m. Friday.
Ice accumulations up to to a half-inch is expected.

“Every county north and west of Allegheny County is under a winter weather advisory and everyone is those areas should be prepared to travel with hazardous conditions such as black ice,” Lake said.
As of Thursday morning, no weather alerts had been issued for Allegheny County.
Among the regional counties under a winter weather advisory are Armstrong, Butler, Clarion, Forest, Indiana, Jefferson, Lawrence and Mercer and Venango.
Lake said mixed precipitation could bring up to 3 inches of snow and sleet, and temperatures will impact which areas see snow, rain of ice.
Up to an inch of rain is expected from Thursday morning through Friday morning.
“The majority of the area will see rain,” Lake said.
Weekend daytime high temperatures are expected remain above freezing, with lows in the 20s at night.
Weekend temps are expected to be in the mid-30s and mid-40s and above freezing but lows in the 20s at night.
