An 18-year-old Brashear High School student accused of throwing another student to the ground and stomping on his head during a fight in school last week has been charged with assault.
Quincey Garland, 18, faces one count of aggravated assault in connection with the incident that left the other student hospitalized.
Days after the alleged assault, Brashear High School principal Kimberly Safran was placed on non-disciplinary paid administrative leave pending a district review of the incident.
It was the fourth incident between Garland and the 17-year-old victim, according to the criminal complaint against Garland.

The latest incident happened shortly before 10 a.m. Jan. 21 in a second-floor hallway between classes, police said.
Pittsburgh Public Schools police officer Steven Fillip wrote in the complaint that he responded to a radio call from another officer for a fight among students. Fillip and the other officer separated several students, but initially failed to notice the victim unconscious on the ground “due to multiple students standing around,” the complaint said.
The victim regained consciousness as officers called for paramedics, the complaint said.
Video of part of the fight that was sent to the Tribune-Review showed a student, now identified by police as Garland, pick up another student and slam him headfirst to the floor. He then stomps the boy’s head multiple times as other students crowd the hallway.
In the criminal complaint, Fillip wrote that security footage from the hallways showed Garland fighting with the victim and another student when a teacher grabbed the second student and pulled him away. Police indicated that Garland and the other student were still scuffling when Garland picked him up and threw him to the ground.
Fillip noted that the victim might have been knocked out by the initial slam to the floor, and the five kicks “happened after he appeared to be unconscious.”
Paramedics transported the injured student from the Beechview school to UPMC Children’s Hospital of Pittsburgh in stable condition. An update on his condition was not immediately available Wednesday.
Garland is scheduled for a Feb. 2 hearing for harassment charges stemming from a prior incident with the victim.
