A Braddock man is set for arraignment Wednesday in federal court after police reported finding drugs in his possession that authorities have linked to overdoses in the area, according to court records.
Deshaun Curtis Jones, 29, was ordered detained pending trial on drug and weapons violations.
North Huntingdon police on Jan. 20 attempted to pull over a BMW on Route 30 near Woodside Drive around 8:30 p.m., according to an indictment. Police said the car had “heavily tinted” windows.
The car pulled over about a mile later and investigators reported a marijuana odor and heroin packaging material on the floor. Authorities said they seized 1,000 stamp bags, cocaine, crack cocaine, marijuana, $991, a digital scale and a stolen handgun from Jones and inside the car, according to court papers.
Jones took ownership of all the items, police said.
About 500 of the stamp bags were marked “Chucky.” That marking has been linked to drug overdoses and deaths in the region, according to authorities. Township police arrested a Jeannette man Jan. 25 during a Route 30 traffic stop who they said had bags of drugs with the same marking. One of the “Chucky” bags during that arrest contained powerful opioid fentanyl, according to court papers. At least two drug overdose deaths in Westmoreland County have been connected to that stamp bag.
Jones is being held in the Butler County Prison on the federal charges.
He was sentenced to one year less a day to two years less a day in the Westmoreland County Prison in 2016 after pleading guilty to selling drugs out of a New Stanton motel, according to online court records. Authorities got a tip about the activity and shut it down in 2014.
