The West Virginia men’s basketball team will get an early-season test against the nation’s No. 1 team.

The No. 15-ranked Mountaineers will play top-ranked Gonzaga in the Jimmy V Classic on Dec. 2 at Bankers Life Fieldhouse in Indianapolis, Ind.

The game will tip at 7 p.m., followed by Baylor vs. Illinois.

West Virginia was originally scheduled to play Youngstown State on Dec. 2, but the Penguins were forced to cancel the game because of covid-19 concerns.

WVU lost 61-58 to Gonzaga in the teams’ last meeting in the 2017 Sweet 16.

The Mountaineers, who will make their fourth appearance in the Jimmy V Classic, open their season tonight against South Dakota State. They play WVU or Utah State on Thursday and will play Northern Iowa, Memphis, Saint Marys or Western Kentucky on Friday.

All three games are part of the Bad Boy Mowers Crossover Classic in Sioux Falls, S.D.
