Westmoreland County adds 90 new coronavirus cases, 2 deaths

Westmoreland County reported 90 new coronavirus cases and two deaths on Wednesday, according to the Pennsylvania Department of Health.

The 90 new cases — 68 confirmed and 22 probable — bring the county’s total to 4,761 since the first cases were reported in March.

Wednesday’s PCR test positivity rate — the percentage of PCR tests that come back positive — in Westmoreland County was 14.2%.

Two more deaths were reported in the county, raising that total to 111.

According to the state’s covid-19 dashboard, there are currently 58 coronavirus patients hospitalized in the county, an increase of five from Tuesday’s 53. The county has 88 ventilators, with 15 in use, but only six by covid-19 patients.

The state reports that 33 long-term care facilities in Westmoreland County have had coronavirus cases, with 761 cases among residents and 112 among employees. There have been 66 coronavirus-related deaths at long-term care facilities in the county.
