West Virginia athletics announced Monday plans to allow fans to attend the Mountaineers football game Oct. 17 against Kansas at Milan Puskar Stadium.
“I want to thank all parties involved in getting to this point,” Director of Athletics Shane Lyons said in a statement. “Covid-19 has presented many challenges, but we have always put the health and safety of our student-athletes, university and community first. Needless to say, we are excited to open our gates and welcome Mountaineer fans back to the stadium.”
WVU plans to allow 25% capacity at the stadium and will follow health and safety guidelines designed amidst the covid-19 pandemic. A cap of about 15,000 fans will be permitted for each remaining home game. Priority will be given to season ticket holders who opted to maintain their investment for the 2020 season, as well as WVU students and player families. A limited number of tickets will go to the visiting team.
Facemasks will be required for all fans, with the exception of when fans are eating or drinking.
WVU has switched to mobile ticketing at all games to provide contactless entry.
There will be no tailgating in the game day parking lots operated by WVU athletics.
