Cornerback John Reid, a three-time All-Big Ten honorable mention choice, became the third Penn State player drafted this year when the Houston Texans selected him in the fourth round Saturday (No. 141 overall).
Former Penn State coach Bill O’Brien is coach of the Texans.
Reid joins second-round picks Yetur Gross-Matos and KJ Hamler, who were drafted by the Carolina Panthers and Denver Broncos on Friday night.
Reid, who played at St. Joseph’s High School in Philadelphia, was a four-star prospect and the third-ranked player in Pennsylvania in 2015, according to Rivals.com. Only Pitt safety Jordan Whitehead and Penn State running back Saquon Barkley were ranked ahead of him.
At Penn State, Reid appeared in 51 games, collecting 37 pass breakups — ranking No. 11 in school history — and seven interceptions.
“He’s a top-100 player for me,” said NFL Network draft analyst Daniel Jeremiah, who believed Reid would be picked early in the fourth round. “He’s my 99th guy. He has production. He’s another one with the versatility to play inside and out. He’s going to be a really good nickel player.”
After missing the 2017 season with a knee injury, he returned to total four interceptions over his last two seasons.
