While so many summer events have been canceled, the Westmoreland Arts & Heritage Festival is still on for July 2-5 in Twin Lakes Park — at least for now.

“We’re moving ahead, at least until we hear from the governor on May 8th on what’s allowed for large gatherings,” said executive director Diane Shrader. “We’ll follow any instructions or mandates that he has.

“It could change in a few days or a few hours,” she said.

Updates will be posted to the festival website and Facebook page.

In the meantime, organizers are continuing to accept vendor applications and to seek additional volunteers for the popular annual event.

“We definitely need volunteers, especially in visitor services,” Shrader said. “We always like to know what our visitors think about the festival and what they’d like to see in the future.”

One change that was implemented already this year was converting the Westmoreland Art Nationals Fine Arts and Photography Exhibition, originally scheduled for May 16-June 3 at the Westmoreland County Community College Youngwood campus, into a virtual exhibit, which also can be viewed on the festival website.

Viewers can arrange to purchase available artworks and vote for the People’s Choice Award via the website.
