West Virginia athletic director Shane Lyons said Wednesday he hopes to continue the basketball series with Pitt after the current four-year contract expires Nov. 13 with a game at the WVU Coliseum in Morgantown.

“I’d love to see it continued,” he said on a conference call that was otherwise devoted to ramifications of the coronavirus. “I’ve had a couple conversations with (athletic director) Heather Lyke at Pitt, one in November (when the teams played at Petersen Events Center). I think she’s on the same page as me.

“And talking to coach (Bob) Huggins, as well, we’d love to see that series continue. We will be in discussions with Pitt. That’s something that’s going to be definitely on our list to extend that series in basketball.”

West Virginia owns a 98-88 advantage in the series after winning the past four games. It’s the longest series Pitt has played against any opponent.
