The USL Championship season suspension was extended because of health concerns surrounding coronavirus.

After postponing the beginning of the season for a minimum of 30 days last week, the USL Championship’s Board of Governors decided to extend that suspension until at least May 10.

In a news release Wednesday, the Pittsburgh Riverhounds said this time period aligns with recent guidelines from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention on restricting public gatherings of 50 or more people.

The Riverhounds practiced Thursday and Friday last week before having the weekend off and also practiced Monday. But after Gov. Tom Wolf strongly urged all nonessential businesses across the state to close for 14 days Monday, the Riverhounds quickly obliged.

The USL Championship intends to reschedule all suspended matches, and the Riverhounds said tickets for postponed home matches will be honored at each game’s rescheduled date.
