Pittsburgh’s love of St. Patrick’s Day and all thing Irish seems to have grown, according to a new poll.
Ranked 10th in 2018, 8th in 2019 and now climbing all the way to 4th, in a report released Tuesday, WalletHub says Pittsburgh is among the best places to celebrate St. Patrick’s Day.
The personal finance website looked at 200 U.S. cities and examined several factors to come up with the ranking.
St. Patrick’s Day traditions, like parades, history, Irish population and Irish bars, got Pittsburgh a No. 5 ranking. And while the weather in Pittsburgh around St. Patrick’s Day ranked it 13th, the cost of celebrating the holiday, meaning what beers and hotel rooms will run for you, pushed the city towards the bottom of the chart to 138th. The city was found to be relatively safe for celebrating, landing at 50th.
Factors that drive Pittsburgh’s high ranking include the city’s high percentage of Irish population (Pittsburgh is second) and high access to bars grade (Pittsburgh and Las Vegas tied for first.)
Chicago topped the chart (who dyes their river green?), Boston was second and Philadelphia third. Cities behind Pittsburgh included Tampa at 5th, Naperville, Ill. at 6th, New York 7th, Buffalo 8th and Cleveland was 9th. See the full chart here.
Pittsburgh’s St. Patrick’s Day parade will be Saturday, March 14, kicking off at 10 a.m. in Downtown.
