There’s a Pittsburgh spin on this line of nail polish

Christmas is less than one week away.

Still in need of a stocking stuffer or two, maybe a small but glam gift for a work party, or Secret Santa present?

How about some Chipped Ham? Church Pierogi? Cookie Table?

There’s nothing edible about those gifts, just three of the fun, Pittsburgh-themed names from the Gridlock Lacquer nail polish line.

When Robyn Tedesco saw the bottle of nail polish her sister received for Christmas a few years ago, she immediately reached out to its maker.

“It coincided with when I took over the store,” she says of The Line Boutique in Irwin.

Lisa Menchetti founded the nail color business in Buffalo, N.Y. and also makes lines for Buffalo and Chicago, in addition to Pittsburgh, according to her website.

She did not respond to a request for comment.

The bright, bold colors — from hot pink to tangerine, plum to candy apple red — are eye catching.

But it’s the names that make them hot collectors’ items, Tedesco says.

Also tugging at Pittsburgher’s heartstrings will be familiar color names — area code “412,” “Gumband,” “Strip District,” “The Igloo,” “Yinzburgh” and “Parking Chair.”

The nail polish has increased traffic to her store, and she ships the bottles all over the country.

“They are popular all year, and we definitely have seen a spike in sales for the holidays,” Tedesco says.

The bottles sell for $9 each. They also are available at numerous other shops in Westmoreland and Allegheny counties and online.
