The Amateur Astronomers Association of Pittsburgh, Inc. will throw a free star gazing party at Kunkle Park in Washington Township on Sept. 28, starting at dusk, weather permitting.
If the skies are accommodating, observers can see brightly colored double stars, star clusters in the Milky Way Galaxy, distant galaxies, the spectacular rings of Saturn and several of the planet Jupiter’s moons and cloud details, according to Terry Trees of the association.
Also visible will be the two most distant planets in our solar system: Uranus and Neptune, Trees added.
Kunkle Park is located behind the Washington Township Municipal Building, 285 Pine Run Church Road. Although Kunkle park is located in Washington Township, GPS will designate the location in Apollo.
The Amateur Astronomers have been offering public star gazing events since 1929.
