Sandcastle’s Lazy River is flowing again.
The popular attraction, along with the park’s Cliffhangers water slides, hadn’t been open yet this season because flooding, and then freezing, cracked the Lazy River’s fiberglass, officials said. Tyler Saxon, sales and marketing director for the park, told the Tribune-Review earlier this month. It needed major repairs.
The Lazy River opened Saturday. Cliffhangers opened Monday.
Meaghan Miller of Washington County, brought her daughters Koree, 13, Peyton, 6, and Evelyn, 4 to the Homestead park.
“The Lazy River is a favorite of ours because we can all ride it together,” Meaghan Miller said. “It’s very family friendly.’
“It’s so relaxing,” Koree said.
Saxon said park-goers were thrilled.
“There were even people sleeping on the Lazy River,” he said Monday. “The customer feedback has been awesome. This is going to be a really hot week so we are happy the Lazy River is open.”
The Cliffhangers slides weren’t able to open because they share the Lazy River’s water filtration system.
“The Lazy River is one of our most popular attractions so it is important for it to be open,” Saxon said. “It is a ride for everyone and now with the Cliffhangers running, everything at Sandcastle is officially open.”
The Lazy River provides “time to relax as the gentle current drifts you down a quarter-mile of floating fun along the river and under the slide,” according the Sandcastle’s website.
It requires 12 lifeguards at all times. The Cliffhangers attraction requires five lifeguards.
The Cliffhangers are parallel slides where riders climb 45 steps and enjoy three sky ponds along the way before sliding into a landing pool.
