This one needed overtime.

After handily winning the first set and then dropping a second-set tiebreak, Peters Township native Alison Riske bounced back and defeated Ivana Jorovic, 6-2, 6-7 (3), 9-7, in a nearly 3-hour match to advance to the third round at Wimbledon.

Riske quickly took the first set, but she lost her stroke in the second and Jorovic found hers. Riske had 12 unforced errors in the second set compared to six in the first.

And Jorovic took advantage, connecting on 20 winners in the second set, compared to just seven in the first set.

Riske never has advanced beyond the third round at Wimbledon, reaching it in 2013, ‘14, and ‘17. She plays at 6 a.m. Eastern time Saturday, when she will face 13th-ranked Belinda Bencic, a straight-set winner over Kaia Kanepi.
