It took two days to recover a car that sank in the Monongahela River in Washington County, according to Tribune-Review news partner WPXI.
Police told WPXI that an 18-year-old driver parked his parents’ Nissan at the top of a boat ramp in New Eagle on Saturday evening.
After the man got out of the car it started rolling down the ramp. Security footage shows the driver unsuccessfully chasing the car, which didn’t stop until it was underwater, about 100 feet from shore.
The first attempt to pull the car from the river failed when a tow cable snapped, WPXI reported. Then a storm rolled in, and rescue efforts were called off.
Rescue workers brought in a heavy-duty tow truck Monday afternoon and successfully pulled the car from the river.
The incident was an accident and the man will not be charged, police told WPXI.
